Colour Match 01

I’m obsessed with colours. If you ask me what my favourite colour is, I can’t really decide. I can only tell you that I love turquoise, mustard yellow, and coral red. I can’t really pick one because I think colours have to work together in most scenarios. The same colour might look different when matched with different colours. If you match them well, it will be a perfect harmony. If you don’t, the colours may become dull or too over the top.

The good news is, colour matching is not science. It’s something that you can learn from your surroundings, such as product packaging, clothing fabrics, signage, posters, or even the nature. You just need to pay attention to how the colours are combined and used. There’s no right or wrong.

I’m not going to write about colour theory here, as you can read about it elsewhere that has all the technical information you need to know. Rather, I’d like to share with you some images for which the colour combination I find interesting and inspiring. I’m hoping to make this a weekly (or bi-weekly?) column. Sounds good?

  1. Love it! I am always inspired by colours as well, but don’t nearly pay enough attention to them. Some Wes Anderson writeups coming?
